Java Technology Confusion

Is anyone else confused with Java? It seems there are new variations on the Java theme posted everyday. When reviewing them, it's sometimes hard to determine if the given Java variation is really something new or a new version of something old. In any event, there is a new language and protocol to learn with each new addition. Anyone remember the old days of FORTRAN? It only changed every 5 years or so.
